Mental arithmetic just as important now as ever
As a private tutor I get asked a lot about what is the point in learning times tables, as we have calculators. My answer will always be the same! It is an essential life skill! Being able to do mental arithmetic is essential! Think about it! Not only do you need it for non calculator papers you also need it in everyday life, working out the cost of several items before you take them to the checkout, working out the amount of change that you are given, seeing if you have enough change for the bus! These are all essential in everyday life!
